Professor Carlos Morillo is a cardiologist, electrophysiologist and clinical trialist. He has been involved with Chagas disease since 1990 with involvement in the initial studies related with autonomic control in the different stages of Chagas disease and the initial trials with beta-blockers in patients with Chagas cardiomyopathy.

In 2002, he led the multinational BENEFIT trial in five endemic countries, this is the largest trial ever conducted in Chagas cardiomyopathy and almost 3000 patients were recruited. Dr. Morillo has also conducted other trials in Chagas disease investigating the role of posaconazole in combination with Benznidazole and is regularly involved in research activities related with Chagas disease.
