IDDO at the Geneva Health Forum 4 May 2022
Hear from our Director, Professor Philippe Guérin, at the Geneva Health Forum’s plenary roundtable on 4 May on “Data sharing in the time of COVID-19: What works and what we need”.
Other roundtable participants are:
- Dr Nathalie Strub-Wourgaft, COVID-19 Response & Pandemic Preparedness, Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative;
- Rob Terry, TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases
- Naomi Waithira, Mahidol Oxford Research Unit Data Sharing Working Group, COVID-19 Clinical Research Coalition;
- And it will be moderated by, Dr Francois Chappuis, University of Geneva.
The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the importance and the urgency of sharing de-identified individual level clinical and study data. Early signals suggested an unprecedented commitment by the research community to data sharing and transparency.
In practice, however, much more COVID-19 data have been promised than delivered, and many pre-pandemic obstacles to data sharing remain unchanged. The discussion aims to raise awareness of the lack of sharing of de-identified individual level data from COVID-19 clinical studies, share strategies for overcoming some of the obstacles, and identify what is still needed to increase clinical data sharing during the pandemic.
