Genomic Epidemiology of Malaria Course

The application deadline for this free course in Bangkok - part of the Wellcome Trust Advanced Courses Overseas Programme - is now approaching. Please note that limited bursaries covering travel and accommodation costs are also available.

Course and bursary application forms must be received by Monday 5 September 2011.  Full details are available on the Wellcome Trust website.

The programme will cover key concepts in genome variation and population genetics, current and emerging sequencing and genotyping technologies to detect variation, and analysis tools for interpreting their data outputs. Concepts and technologies will be presented in the context of real-world applications, like using genetic variation for surveillance of antimalarial drug and insecticide resistance.

Topics will include:
•    Illumina sequencing technology, data outputs and preliminary analysis
•    Analysis of genomic features and identification of variation within and across genomes and populations
•    Application of sequence data to genome-wide genotyping
•    Genome-wide association studies
•    Relevant statistical and population genetic analyses
•    Considerations for epidemiological study design
•    Applications of genomics to malaria elimination.
