Lucie Kafkova, a former Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow, recently joined IDDO to support the Neglected Tropical Disease portfolio team. Before this, she conducted ground-breaking research in Prof. Mathew Freeman's lab at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, developing novel methodology using unnatural amino acids to discover new substrates of human rhomboid protease RHBDL4.
Lucie earned her Ph.D. at the University at Buffalo under the guidance of Prof. Laurie Read, investigating arginine methylation in Trypanosoma brucei. Her academic journey began with a master's and bachelor's degree in the lab of Prof. Lukes in the Czech Republic, where she studied RNA editing in Trypanosoma brucei. Notably, Lucie was honoured with the Dean's Prize for both her master's and Ph.D. theses. Lucie is also a certified Professional Coach, showcasing her commitment to personal and professional development.
Dhol Samuel Ayuen is a medical doctor from South Sudan. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, and a certificate in Global Health from Leiden University, in the Netherlands. He also holds a Master of Science in International Health and Tropical Medicine from the University of Oxford.
Before joining IDDO, Dhol was a medical doctor providing medical and surgical services in Kampala, Uganda and Juba, South Sudan. He mainly treated tropical infectious diseases like Malaria, HIV/AIDS and opportunistic infections, tuberculosis, leishmaniasis, schistosomiasis and other neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and provided clinical services to women and children. He also provided surgical, obstetrics and gynaecological and paediatrics services to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) on the outskirts of the South Sudanese capital, Juba.
Dhol joined IDDO/WWARN in 2023 as an Evidence Synthesis Officer working on the Severe Malaria project, Molecular markers of antimalarial resistance surveyors and the WWARN Clinical Trials Publication Library.
He has since November 2023 been working as a Project Manager for malaria research projects. These projects include the WWARN living systematic reviews, WWARN Clinical Trials Publication Library and its surveyor and the Molecular surveyors ,Renal impairment in severe malaria ,Correlation between the K13 genotype and clinical phenotype ,Ivermectin pharmacokinetics in children and adults study groups among others.
He is passionate about research and evidence-based medicine and it is this passion that has driven him to garner more skills ,knowledge and experience through engaging in research that would provide evidence to inform health policies and translate policies into practice.
Shanti Rochester joined IDDO in June 2023. As a Project Officer – Data Sharing, she supports global governance processes and policies that encourage data to be shared and reused responsibly.
Prior to joining IDDO, Shanti carried out field research on maternal and infant health in Uganda and quantitative analyses on community-resilience initiatives (CRIs) affecting rural communities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, she has experience in fundraising within the contexts of Brazil and East Africa.
Shanti holds a BSc in Political Science with a Specialisation in International Relations and Organisations from Leiden University in the Netherlands and a MSc in Development Studies from SOAS University of London.
Sam joined the team in spring 2019 and works on communications for IDDO and WWARN including website updates, writing news stories, social media and conference support.
A trained newspaper journalist, copy writer and former marketing executive with a global brand, Sam has previously worked for regional and national newspapers, as well as a London based news agency and the BBC, and has extensive experience writing for a wide range of publications. Most recently she was a freelance writer working with small businesses and organisations to help promote their work.
Jakub Miziołek is the IDDO Systems & Database Administrator. Jakub joined the WorldWide Antimalarial Research Network (WWARN) Informatics team - now part of the IDDO platform - in March 2015. He is responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of WWARN and IDDO server infrastructure. Jakub has extensive experience in computer systems configuration and management gained as a Systems Administrator at the University of Warsaw, Poland. Prior to this position Jakub worked for several private companies specialising in health, insurance and telecommunications. Jakub has a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Warsaw, Poland.
