Dr. Dinesh Mondal is a Senior Scientist in the Nutrition Infection Interaction research unit, Nutrition and Clinical Services Division of the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). He graduated in Medicine in the Higher Medical Institute, Sofia Medical Academy, Bulgaria. Subsequently he obtained MD (Pediatrics) and PhD (Pediatric Gastroenterology) in the Institute of Pediatrics, Sofia Medical Academy, Bulgaria. He started his scientific career in the field of enteric infections and nutrition.
In 2006 Dr Mondal obtained TDR grants in the field of Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) which started his career in the field. His research outputs showed the path for early detection of cases with visceral leishmaniasi and post kala-azar dermal leishmaniasis (PKDL), discovered new tools for sand fly control, new methods for diagnosis of VL and PKDL, relation of nutritional intervention with disease development and how to bring the highly safe and effective treatment for VL (Single Dose AmBisome for VL) in the rural hospitals of Bangladesh. His dedication to VL research made him a member of the National Technical Working Group for VL elimination, Bangladesh, member of the Regional Technical Advisory Group, SEARO, WHO and a member of the WHO Advisory Panel for control of Parasitic Disease (Leishmaniasis).
