Prior to completing her PhD in medical ethics at the University of Basel, Nicola Stingelin-Giles held a position as global head of a medium size pharmaceutical corporation with responsibilities for intellectual property.
Stingelin has held various research and lecturing posts at the University of Basel and other institutions in different practical ethics fields, specialising in research ethics in medical, public health, business and environmental fields, especially in the emerging sciences and technologies.
She has developed a special interest in the ethics of data innovation including big data, algorithms and public health data ethics in health care research and practice, and serves on several committees and special interest groups, as well as being regularly engaged as ethics expert and reviewer to the European Commission. Nicola advises on a range of international projects, as well as maintaining contacts with the life sciences by working as independent consultant to the pharmaceutical sector.
