Research Agenda Development Process

Research Agendas are developed by the global research community for each disease research theme. They explore the key scientific questions that could be answered by analysis of pooled and standardised individual data from patients affected by poverty-related infectious diseases.

The Infectious Diseases Data Observatory (IDDO) works directly with the global research community and other key stakeholders affected by poverty-related infectious diseases to assemble data platforms that aim to collate individual patient data from clinical and epidemiological studies to deliver robust science and address knowledge gaps

Research Agenda Development Process

The Research Agenda sets the priorities for research on each disease to be undertaken on their respective data platforms, as presented by research community needs, particularly from endemic regions. These questions are specifically those that can be addressed by using individual patient data from scattered data resources around the world that are able to be pooled and standardised on IDDO’s data platforms.

The Research Agenda development process outlined below has thus been designed to be inclusive and representative of research community needs, while fostering an environment for collaboration. The final Research Agenda for a disease research theme remains a living document, to be reviewed by the Scientific Advisory Committee of each data platform annually.

PHASE 1
Scoping & Preliminary Agenda
  • Initial scoping of recognised unknowns and research gaps
  • Systematic review findings
  • Stakeholder engagement, discussions and questionnaire
PHASE 2
Draft Agenda
  • Internal draft informed by scoping
  • Scientific Advisory Committee review and comments
  • Finalise 1st draft
PHASE 3
Expert Review
  • Invite experts from research community for review
  • Finalise 2nd draft
PHASE 4
Open Review
  • Publish 2nd draft online inviting public comment
  • Finalise v1.0 Research Agenda
PHASE 5
Final Agenda
  • Published on the IDDO research theme website
  • Living document versioned for future iterations and expansion
